The custom car community has been good to David MacDonald and others involved in this year’s Custom Sounds & Tint Texas Heat Wave. David, founder of the Texas Heat Wave and his series of custom car shows in Texas, likely never saw this anniversary date coming. But yet, here he is, only one month away from kicking off the 30th Texas Heat Wave custom car show since his inaugural event back in 1989.

Growing The Custom Car And Truck Community In Texas
While his roots in the mini truck community were modest at first, David’s connection with this incredibly welcoming family only grew over time. Since the late 80s and mid-90s, Heat Wave car and truck shows have grown from a generous handful of vehicles to well over a thousand. This year, David and his team anticipate over 2,000 custom cars and trucks to join the ever-growing squad. As it turns out, 30 years’ worth of hard work doing what you love pays off.
Competitors will venture out to the Travis County Expo Center from as far as Canada and Mexico, some making their annual automotive pilgrimage while others are embarking on their first Heat Wave adventure. For all of those first-timers out there, we recommend buckling up for fun entertainment, great conversations, loud exhausts and even louder sound systems. And hey, the possibility of winning $500 or even $1,000 for an incredibly well-done vehicle isn’t too shabby, either!
WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM THE 30TH TEXAS HEAT WAVE?
Not unlike previous years, spectators and participants alike can expect a great time at this year’s custom car and truck show in Austin. There will be tons of custom mini trucks, lowriders, giant lifted trucks, import tuners, and other vehicles to “ooh” and “ahh” at. There’s also a killer blow-out sale on behalf of Custom Sounds & Tint, the show’s primary sponsor. They’ll be featuring premier 12Volt brands and showcasing the latest and greatest products at slashed retail prices.
BUT WAIT — THERE’S MORE!
We couldn’t have a 30th anniversary without celebrating it, so naturally, we’re making this year’s Heat Wave event the biggest and most exciting one in history. David describes the event as truly “Texas-sized,” and it’s true. Record crowds will enjoy burnout contests, hydraulic contests, a BMX bike stunt show, TCW wrestling, monster trucks, a bikini contest, helicopter rides, and plenty of live music. There’s even said to be a wedding happening on the grounds this year.
